6、 Highlights HE&FC ExpoThis is the first hydrogen-specific tradeshow taking place in China after Covid restrictions have been fully lifted.The industry is in its infancy-many of the technologies and products on display are not yet being deployed commercially.Despite policy-driven growth,the developme
7、nt of the fuel cell powertrain component market has stepped ahead of the market for clear H2 supply.However,the industry starts to pay more attention to the H2 supply,especially the green H2.The electrolyzer suppliers dominated the expo and attracted the most attention.Most of the exhibitors are loc
8、al vendors-boosting the hydrogen industry by local supply chain has always been encouraged.Two years ago,fuel cell powertrain components,including stacks,BOP and onboard H2 tank,relied very much on imports.But today,local vendors start to lead the supply.Talking to air compressor suppliers we got th
9、e sense that the made-in-China fuel cell compressors are competitive in both cost and technology.China has the inherent advantage of producing green hydrogen on a large scale,and the production capacity of Chinese electrolyzers is leading the world.Leading suppliers who attend the show including Sun
10、grow(China),LONGi(China),John Cockerill Jingli(China&Belgium),SinoHy Energy(China)The government plays an important role in pushing the hydrogen industry.Many people and groups from government agencies joined the exhibition,either as exhibitors or visitors.According to communication with the supplie
11、rs,government actions are the most important considerations in most of the hydrogen projects they undertake today.The industrial development expects to accelerate significantly in 2023.Many exhibitors tell us that projects/orders are increasing quickly from the second half of 2022.The hydrogen marke

13、ppliers display their fuel cell products,including fuel cell system and stacks for commercial vehicles:Sinohytec,Wenli,Sinosynergy,In-power Hydrogen Propulsion and Fenergy.Sinohytec has substantial market share in the fuel cell system market in China.It has a subsidiary(SinoFuelCell)focusing on stac
14、k production.Before 2021,many of Sinohytecs fuel cell systems were equipped with stacks from Toyota.However,since last year,the majority of fuel cell systems are equipped with localized stacks from SinoFuelCell.The local stacks are also adopted by the rest of the fuel cell exhibitors.SHPT,another le
15、ading local fuel cell supplier with in-house stacks,is the shareholder of In-power Hydrogen Propulsion and provides it with its core fuel cell technology.Sinohytec,Sinosynergy,Fenergy also display self-produced fuel cell stacks.All fuel cell systems on display have a power output of more than 100kw
16、and show promise with a duration of 15000hrs.Theyre ideal for different heavy-duty vehicles.This is a clear trend for FCEV market in China given more government encouragement for fuel cell applications in heavy-duty vehicles.Confidential.2023 Interact Analysis.All Rights Reserved.H2 tank vendor show
17、ing lighter and cheaper tanks with higher capacityH2 tanks are not the main character of the show.Only two companies display hydrogen storage solutions.Beijing Tianhai is the one focusing on onboard hydrogen storage.It display onboard hydrogen storage solutions with 310L tanks.Theyre type IV and the
18、 storage pressure is 70MPa.According to the conversation,Tianhai produces type IV tank at a lower cost than type III with localized carbon fibre,the company also had a special solution to deal with the sealing problems for type IV tanks.Talking to an engineer from the company,we got to know that man
19、y local vendors start to purchase the carbon fibre(the costliest part of the tanks)from local suppliers since last year.Theyre also targeting a localized supply of on-tank valves.After complete localization,the cost of an H2 tank could decrease by over 50%in next few years.Confidential.2023 Interact
20、 Analysis.All Rights Reserved.Compressor vendors showing their high-power products with low costEasyland is the exclusive exhibitor who displayed fuel cell air compressors,the most expensive BOP components in the fuel cell system.It displays fuel cell air compressors that can be used for 200kw+fuel
21、cell system.According to the marketing person from Easyland,almost every fuel cell compressors sold in China last year are centrifugal dual stage compressors,most of which were manufactured by local vendors.The made-in-China air compressors have been sold to oversea fuel cell system suppliers due to
22、 its substantial cost competitiveness and capability to match high-power system.Confidential.2023 Interact Analysis.All Rights Reserved.Not only for on-road vehicles-Fuel cell trainsRongchuang New Energy is the exclusive exhibitor who display fuel cell system for hydrogen trains and trams.Rongchuang
23、 has joined several projects to deploy fuel cell trams and locomotives in China.It provides CRRC with fuel cell systems.Some CRRC projects have completed the testing phase and will start to operate very soon.Rongchuang has fuel cell system products ranging from 100kW 1MW.Besides fuel cell system for
24、 heavy transport,it also has fuel cell products for power generation.According to the marketing director from Rongchuang,the hydrogen trains are designed to replace diesel trains.The lifecycle TCO for hydrogen trains is possible to be lower than an electric trains today due to the cost of overhead c
25、atenary.Hydrogen can show its advantage in energy density when comparing to battery train,which require a large and heavy battery onboard.Rongchuang is also looking at the European market,where some hydrogen trains have been in operation and the share of non-electrified railway is higher than in Chi
26、na.Confidential.2023 Interact Analysis.All Rights Reserved.Not only for on-road vehicles-Fuel cell dronesDoosan Mobility displayed its fuel cell solution for drones,including a 1.25kw fuel cell module and a small type III H2 tank(China market only).Fuel cell technology is a promising solution for in
27、dustrial drone inspection,which requires a long flight duration.The fuel cell module is made by Doosan,while the H2 tank comes from local vendors.Based on a talk with Doosan,the fuel cell drone is still much expensive than an electric drone.The client doesnt need to worry about H2 refueling,since th

29、ppliers dominate the show:20%of the exhibitors are electrolyzer suppliers.They provide the energy company/gas producer with electrolyzer,a key production technology for green H2.Some of the companies are also capable of providing the power supply facility(rectifier)and system integration solution,bu
30、t none of these directly deliver H2.LONGi,Sungrow,John Cockerill Jingli(JV of John Cockerill and Jingli)and Sinohy Energy have world-leading production capacity.They all are at the expo and show their technology in green H2 production.Alkaline(ALK)electrolyzers seem to be the mainstream technology f
31、or green H2 production in China:A large production scale accompanied by lower costs.Many suppliers can provide the electrolyzer capable of H2 production of up to 2000Nm3/h,with energy consumption of lower than 4.5kwh/Nm3.Confidential.2023 Interact Analysis.All Rights Reserved.Note that the photos sh
32、own here are either the model or a scaled-down prototype,instead of real electrolyzer.The real one is too big to be displayed in a hall.Refueling networks are crucial to connect supply and demandSuppliers that involved in H2 refueling business is another highlight at the expo.Censtar H2e and ZTTCE a
33、re the two big HRS equipment supplier,they display their H2 dispensers,which can refuel at both 35MPa and 70MPa.Many HRS equipment suppliers start to participate large HRS projects(2000kg/d).There is a clear trend that HRS is becoming larger in refueling capacity.By communicating with the suppliers,
34、we know that HRS equipment suppliers typically also have the capability to provide systemic solutions for hydrogen refueling stations but are generally not involved in hydrogen supply and transportation.Another big HRS player at the show is Hyfun,they have 70+HRS in China so far.At the show Hyfun hi
35、ghlighted its high-capacity hydrogen distribution solution:Magnesium-based solid-state hydrogen distribution trucks.The distribution capacity and the safety are the main advantage.Hydrogen compressors are the most expensive part of HRS,therere also some exhibitors who specializing in hydrogen compre

37、er facilities for the whole hydrogen supply chain,including electrolyzers,tube trailers,hydrogen dispensers,hydrogen stations,onboard H2 tanks.Sungrow has a product portfolio covering power supply,energy storage,PV,chargers and electrolyzers,it also shows their solution for the hydrogen ecosystem at
