、 a return to form for Familia Torres.Last year was the first time the brand had fallen outside the podium since the list was born in 2011,but having claimed its seventh title this year,2023 was clearly just a blip. The Spanish producer has consistently showed leadership not just in the development of

、DRINKS INTERNATIONAL 7 COUNTRY OF ORIGIN:SPAIN OWNER:TORRES FAMILYF Familia Torres reclaims the top spot this year, reward for its ability to meet a range of consumer needs with quality wines across a variety of price points, while impressing with its green credentials and its work to give new life to
、 historic grape varieties. As one academy voter noted:“Torres is a world leader when it comes to sustainability.”It co-founded with Jackson Family Wines the International Wineries for Climate Action,an organisation whose membership has grown with haste to almost 50,and includes Yealands and Felton Ro
、ad in New Zealand,Champagne Lanson, and Californias Opus One.Familia Torres president Miguel Torres says:“The biggest challenge is undoubtedly climate change as this has a profound influence on viticulture, directly affecting harvests, grape yields, and, ultimately, the quality of the wines.Action is need

、he Netherlands,Japan,Norway and Mexico are the principal markets for a group whose sales in 2023 topped 246m,but Miguel Torres acknowledges that the hangover from the global pandemic and the subsequent cost of living crisis have made trading tough.“It was a complex year due to the increase in materi

、 good performance too, which is an indication of the resurgence of tourism.“Looking ahead to 2024,we are optimistic and anticipate steady growth within our main markets.”Among the companys standout wines are Mas La Plana from Peneds,Milmanda and Grans Muralles from Conca de Barber and Mas de la Rosa

、blend of Forcada and Xarel.lo from Peneds.Miguel Torres adds:“This is a project I started 40 years ago to recover pre-phylloxera Catalan varieties, but it was my son Miguel and my daughter Mireia who really made it grow.“We are now focusing on those varieties that have both a great potential and are
、better adapted to the current climate conditions.”Torres also launched a new Rioja called Malpastor last year and added Casals vermouth to its portfolio.Miguel Torres puts the brands repeated success in the Most Admired list down to“our commitment to environmental sustainability, our international pr
