4、tials are transforming the future of education.Ninety-seven percent of US campus leaders offering micro-credentials say these credentials strengthen students long-term career outcomes.Additionally,95%say they will be an important part of higher education in the near future.1 Im thrilled to present t
5、he Micro-Credentials Impact Report 2024:US Edition,which illustrates how micro-credentials can enhance student satisfaction,strengthen institutional brand,and influence enrollment and retention.The insights featured are based on a comprehensive Coursera survey of 330+higher education leaders in the
6、US,part of a larger global survey of 1,000+leaders across 850+institutions.Micro-credentials emerged with the rise of digital learning in the early 2000s.2 In 2010,short-term,nondegree certificates accounted for 41%of all credentials awarded by US community colleges.3 By 2019,that number rose to 71%
7、.4 The advent of massive open online courses(MOOCs)happened early in academia,but online platforms like Coursera popularized the format.Tech giants eventually launched their own career credentials,often in partnership with online providers,to help students build job skills.Coursera,for example,began
8、 offering Professional Certificates,a type of micro-credential from industry leaders such as Google,IBM,and Meta.Weve come a long way since the inception of career credentials.The insights in this report reveal the increasing integration and expansion of micro-credentials in higher education.Current
9、ly,51%of US leaders offering micro-credentials say they provide credit-bearing options,while 76%indicate plans to do so within the next five years.This trend underscores the growing importance of micro-credentials across US campuses.Leading accrediting bodies such as the American Council on Educatio

16、 certification that focuses on a specific set of learning outcomes in a narrow field of learning,and is completed over a shorter time period.5 A Professional Certificate is an industry-recognized micro-credential designed to equip learners with the skills and knowledge necessary for specific jobs or
17、 industries.Offered by top companies,entry-level and advanced programs can be completed in three to 12 months.Learners build skills such as project management,data analysis,and programming.Additionally,they gain access to career support like job search guides,rsum assistance,interview practice,and a

128、dentials.The survey explored various aspects of micro-credentials in higher education,including implementation trends,attitudes toward for-credit adoption,broader impact on campus,and institutional challenges to integration.We collected responses from 1,058 higher education leaders in our database,r
129、epresenting a diverse range of institutions and roles from 852 institutions across 89 countries.The online survey was conducted between April 11 and May 9,2024,with the majority of responses collected between April 26 and May 2.Respondents included department heads,professors,deans,vice presidents,p
130、residents,and other key decision-makers in higher education institutions.The survey garnered widespread participation,with the United States providing the largest number of responses at 333,followed by countries such as India,Mexico,Colombia,and the Philippines.Given the distribution of responses,we
131、 created a dedicated report for higher education leaders in the United States.Our global sample size of 1,058 leaders enabled us to obtain results with an industry-standard range of error at a 95%confidence level.Where useful,we compared findings from higher education leaders surveyed with the persp
