267、actor companies in 2007 to arrest thisconcerning trend.As a result,contractorsafety performance improved by 25%.Hand and finger injuries continued to be the major injury type,accounting for up tohalf of all injuries.To address this,Santoslaunched an awareness program in 2007including a hand hazard i
268、dentification andglove selection program which aims to reducethe number of incidents and the severity ofthe injury.Fatigue has been identified as another causeof many serious workplace accidents.Santosestablished a joint employee/employerworking group to review fatigue data,rosters and work patterns

307、n the environmentand community.For example,the oil spill in the Brisbanesuburb of Algester was detected by Santosautomatic monitoring system.When the leaksite was identified,the section of pipeline inthe vicinity of the incident was furtherisolated to minimise the spill.Santos worked closely with em
308、ergencyservices and the Queensland EnvironmentalProtection Authority to contain the oil andsupport the affected residents.In the first 48 hours after the spill,themajority of surface oil was recovered andstormwater drains cleaned.Clean-upactivities were continuing at the time thisreport was publishe
309、d to ensure the area isfully rehabilitated.Santos is concerned about the impact to the environment and community as a result of these oil spills and will diligently pursueprograms to remediate spill sites and preventfurther spills.In 2007 Santos undertook an oil spillprevention management review to
